Samuel Winder
Folk, Rock
Samuel Winder crafts songs that saunter delicately between cosy and arresting. With piercingly sincere lyrics at the helm, the Newcastle local tumbled onto the scene in 2023 with his gentle folk EP ‘Fragments’. After a string of sold-out shows, Winder followed up with the crunchy folk-rock single ‘Steady Hand’, a beautifully tangled ride that speaks to shouldering too much for your good. Winder has quickly garnered avid listeners at home and abroad, with his rich, raw vocals deftly treading the crossroads of folk, indie-rock and country. After a year of writing, refining and recording, Samuel is back with his new single, ‘Dog’, a delicate unpacking of young death that balances the grief with poignant, catchy hooks. A collage of intricate acoustic guitar, crunchy drum machines, gritty synth swells, gentle violin and driving, and roomy live drums, ‘Dog’ is the start of something new. Still in the studio putting the finishing touches on a yet-to-be-announced project, Winder carries an unyielding commitment to penning music as searingly candid as it is soothing, catchy and cathartic. Whatever comes next, there’s a simmering feeling here that he is on the cusp of something truly special.
